What is SiriusXM Radio?

If you're old enough, you may remember that Sirius disrupted the traditional AM/FM radio market. Sirius originally built, owned, and operated the first commercial satellite radio service in 1990. It was the first company to create a subscription-based radio service commercial for free! Later, the company merged with XM radio in 2008, creating SiriusXM Radio.

Today, Sirius XM Radio is a satellite radio service that provides commercial-free music, sports, comedy, news, podcasts, and over 400 channels worldwide. Sirius XM Radio is a subscription-based service initially only available through special satellite radios. Today, it is available on various devices, including personal computers, smartphones, tablets, Google Homes, and Amazon Echo devices.

How to Get SiriusXM on Alexa

If you are looking to take your streaming music service game up a level, then let's discuss how to stream SiriusXM on Amazon Alexa!

You will need a subscription to the service. If you're okay with streaming the service, we suggest opting for a Streaming Services Only option. You will pay about half the cost and still get all of the great content.

After signing up for your SiriusXM Account, you need to open the Alexa App.

Tap more, then navigate to Music & Podcasts.

You will want to "Link New Service" by tapping the + symbol.

Now you will tap the XM symbol and link SiriusXM to Alexa by enabling the skill.

Finally, you will sign into your SiriusXM account and share permissions with Amazon if you like.

Once you connect your account to your Amazon devices, you'll want to navigate to the Music & Podcast Home Screen. You will see "Default Services" at the top of the page, and you will want to set SiriusXM to your default music services.

Quick Instructions: Open AlexaApp>Tap More>Tap Music & Podcasts>Tap Link New Service>Tap SiriusXM>Enable Skill to Use>Sign into Your Account>Set Sirius as Default Music Service

How to Control SiriusXM on Your Alexa Device

Now that you have enabled the SiriusXM skill, here are a few commands to ask Alexa to play music and tips to get the best listening experience from your devices.

Commands

  • "Alexa, play music on SiriusXM."

  • "Alexa, play the Howard Stern Channel on SiriusXM."

  • "Alexa, play channel ten on SiriusXM."

  • "Alexa, play Hits One."

Tips

To get the best listening experience on your default music app, then make sure to create groups with your devices. You can play music simultaneously on several devices when you create a group.

If you started playing music on one Echo and then went to another room of your house with another device, say, "Alexa, transfer music here." Now your music will transfer to the new device where it left off.

Currently, you can only stream Sirius to one Alexa device at a time. If you want to stream music to several devices, explore Apple Music or Amazon Music. They both have plans that allow several users to stream to multiple speakers.

Hopefully, you were able to connect your SiriusXM account to Alexa. Now let us know how you will utilize your subscription and Echo devices.
